Giving the amounts, context and criticism in reviews on your product I think that Hayes is in danger of failing sales!
You should try and fight for yours and work with us biking fanatics to support you. Your brands are free falling.
You also should NOT try to trick us, comments like "better then 36; set and forget; unique" are fake and not methodical science real bikers seek and respect.
Dream builds, UCI downhill cup podiums, Pinkbike, GMBT... that's what you need otherwise you stand no chance if you continue down your road...
Works like a charm and these guys are great! Answered all my questions! Order a bottom ring for it.
Pulled the trigger on this fork when Hayes had it on sale. I went with the extended version with 120+ travel. Wanted this fork so I could use it with my fat wheels in winter and 27.5 plus in the summer. I've been extremely happy so far running it in 27.5 plus mode. Haven't tried it with fat wheels yet. Fork is super stiff and confident. Still getting used to the change in geometry and weight in the front, but the transition has been smooth. I did have some trouble setting up the brakes on the fork. I reinstalled the brakes, and the pads only touched the very outside edge of the rotor. Baffled, I called Hayes tech support and didn't get much help. I explained I'm using a 180mm rotor and asked if I needed a different brake adapter. The tech from Hayes just said I needed a 180mm adapter and gave me a part number if I needed to order. What he didn't tell me (after some research on the interwebs) is that Mastadon does NOT need an adapter if you're using a 180mm rotor. The fork is already designed to use that size. The stock rigid fork on my Big Jon is designed run a 160mm rotor. Since my bike came with a 180mm, it needed the adapter for the stock fork. After getting some shorter caliper mounting bolts, removing the adapter, and reinstalling, it worked like a charm. Got an education on brake adapters for sure. Had tech support mentioned that simple step, it could've saved me some grief. The guy I spoke with seemed like I was bothering him with my call. Still giving the fork 5 stars for it's performance, but Hayes tech support was disappointing.
I own a 2020 Trek Farley 9.6 Carbon Fat Bike with the MASTODON PRO EXT fork on it, works great, comes set at 100mm but you can adjust to 120mm or 140mm depending on your riding. The fork is light for it's size! Smooth travel and the lock out is nice but you will have to run a 180mm rotor on it so you might have to upgrade your standard 160mm to a 180mm.
Bought my Specialized Fatboy a year ago with carbon fork. I noticed in my area of SE Michigan that the rock gardens, roots and logs were really taxing me on long and fast descents. While the fatty tires absorb slot of the vibrations and shock it still is not like having a quality shock out front. Took advantage of Hayes sale and purchased Mastodon Pro. I have been blown away by the improvement not only in my descents but the handling on sharp twisty single track and my confidence as a result. Customer service is spot on as well. Once I got it dialed in, it’s a set it and forget it fork for my fatty! You won’t be disappointed!
