BRAKE AID

We know you can only go as fast as your brakes allow. That is why one of the best upgrades you can make to your bike is a new set of Hayes Dominion high-performance brakes.

But what all is involved in replacing your brakes? How do you know if you are getting everything you need for your specific bike?

That is where we come in, follow the steps below to make sure you have everything you need to install your new set of Dominion brakes with ease.

STEP 1: BUILD YOUR KIT

PRO TIP
The Small Finger Lever (SFL) option is perfect for those with smaller hands, the lever is closer to the bar and has a thinner profile. We recommend you select the same size lever for both front and rear brakes.

PRO TIP
The larger the rotor size the more braking power you will have. Depending on your riding style, terrain, and manufacturer recommendations choosing the largest possible rotor is not always best. Consider a smaller rotor for easier control and lighter weight to best suit your needs.

You will need to select a rotor for both the front and the rear of your bike. Check with your frame and fork manufacturer to see what they recommend for rotor sizes.

STEP 2: DON'T FORGET THESE TO MOUNT YOUR BRAKES!

PRO TIP FOR BLEED KITS
Each front brake has a hose length of 90cm, and rear brakes have a length of 190cm from the factory. Due to factory standard length, you will need to trim the brake hose to the proper length and in some cases, you will need to pass the hose through the frame. This means that a brake bleed will be necessary during install. The Bleed Kit below includes everything you need to make sure that your brake is free of air for your first ride!

PRO TIP
Depending on your frame and fork, you may need to use adapters to properly fit your brakes. There are two types of adapter styles, Post Mount and Direct Mount. Check with your frame and fork manufacturer to see what version is on your bike. For example, your frame may use a 160mm Post Mount and you would like to use a 180mm rotor. You will need to select 160mm under Post Mount and select 180mm under Rotor Size. If your frame uses a 180mm post mount and you want to use a 180mm rotor and would not need an adapter.

PRO TIP
Clean up your cockpit with our Peacemaker clamp adapters and remove the need for multiple clamps. These work with shifters only and are not to be used with dropper post levers.
