With a motorsports-inspired Two-Stroke dual port bleed system, industry-leading DOT 5.1 fluid and Kevlar hose, the hydraulic system is engineered for ultimate performance across all temperatures and easy maintenance.

Dominion A4 features the proprietary QuickBite² system for fast and consistent burnish, coupled with our D-Series rotor to manage the heat with less braking noise.

These are the best bike brakes. Read my review, I tried many!

I tried the following brakes and I weight 195 lbs geared up:

- SRAM Level T: pretty much useless

- Magura MT5 with MT7 pads: A PITA to bleed. Okay power, cheap lever.

- Shigura MT5/xt: powerful, but wandering bite point coming from the Shimano servowave (the lever acts like a cam, and if the piston don’t return fast enough on the lever to make contact and push oil, then you could have some emotions trying to brake late before a berm)

-Shimano two piston slx: okay for the rear wheel of a 27,5 trail bike

-Shimano SLX 4 pistons: wandering bite point due to friction and slow return of the servowave and cracked ceramic piston with no spare parts. Lame in winter. Next.

-Shimano XT 4 pistons: same as SLX. Decent power when they work. Okay for beginners but if you want to go fast and maximize your speed in every berms and before drops, look elsewhere. Oh and no spare parts. Also: all the 2021 and newer Shimano lever blades have a little dent near the pivot that creates a week point. Compare 2019 to 2021 and you will see. They are the same weight (identical) but the newer version has a week spot, so if you ever clip a tree or just fall, the lever blade will break (well, 2 of mine did). Oh. And no spare parts ;).

- cheap trickstuff imitation levers from Zoom mixed with magura MT5 caliper (for the science and since I have so many brakes lying around…). Damn… not bad. Perfect for a fatbike in winter. Great modulation, a good amount of power and a great feeling lever.

-TRP DHR evo: now we are getting serious. Removed the organic pad (glazing just by looking at them in the sun). Semi-metallic pads —> nice! Lot of power, good modulation, strange finger position due to the weird lever blade. Upgraded to an aftermartket lever. Still a bit strange, but they are great.

-Hayes Dominion A4: Installation and bleeding: easy peasy. CRAZY amount of power. Perfect caliper alignment with the cross hair grub screw. The modulation is perfect with absolutely no dead stroke. The lever feels awesome, with a lot of possible adjustment. If you try these or the TRP, you will never use shimano or sram ever again.

The Hayes Dominion A4 are the best of all. They are DOT fluid, but easy to bleed with no mess, so that’s fine with me!

Fantastic anchors

I was looking for the holy grail of brakes; modulation, power, ergonomics. Found what I was looking for in the Dominion A4. I was suffering from hand cramps and arm pump with my previous set up, and these made a huge difference. A+

excellent

great power and consistency. free stroke not exactly short, but the ultra light pull to the bite point more than makes up for it. way less fatiguing than the guides i was using previously. only wish they used mineral oil.

Hayes or nothin

Best brakes I've used hands down, all the power you could ask for, unmatched modulation.
